Hey Reader! Happy Labour Day weekend, everyone! It's a proper long weekend and the weather's looking not so hot (fingers crossed), so let's get the kids out of the house. Here's what looks actually worth doing this Fri–Sun. -- 1. Central: PMQ Picture Book Library Local illustrator Kinchoi Lam’s work is whimsical and sweet — think cozy picture-book vibes. The PMQ space is small but lovely, and $20 for a day ticket is totally reasonable. Nice for a quieter cultural outing with littles who like stories and art. Open Wed–Sun, 1pm–6pm (ongoing through June) More info -- 2. Repulse Bay: Bookazine Family Fun Day Story reading, slime making, crafts, games — Bookazine’s pulling out all the stops at their Repulse Bay store. It’s free to attend and right by the beach, so you could make a whole day of it. Sunscreen mandatory. Sunday 3 May, 10:30am–4pm More info -- 3. Cyberport: Stained Glass - Luminous Lexicon It's the last chance to catch the beautiful stained glass art at Cyberport (ends on 3 May!). The picutures look beautiful and the press release reads "By deconstructing the traditional craft of stained glass, you can examine how geometry, color, and imagery have shaped myths and legends across cultures." - I'm sure you can make that into a fun learning moment and capture some cute photos too! From now until 3 May, 12PM – 6PM More info -- 4. Hung Hom: Star Wars Night Run & Day Market Get your kids into Star Wars early! It's too late to sign up for the run but that doesn't mean you can't head down to watch runners cosplayed as your favourite Star Wars characters! Much fun this looks like (; 1 May, 3-9pm More info ✌️✌️✌️ Sharing is caring - forward this to a fellow parent friend who's looking for weekend ideas or tell them to sign up with their own email here! 💜💜💜 Hit reply if you have any ideas for events / activities to include, or if I did a great (or 💩) job with this week's recommendations Cheers, Lulu (@unaestheticmom42) |
Honest, unaesthetic, occasionally useful — from an SG mom in HK.
Hello Reader It is BOILINGGGGGG - for me that means time to hide in the shade although I am equally imagining lots of families heading to the beach (; With that in mind, I'm keeping my recommendations strictly AC only - don't hate! 1. TST: Kid friendly HK Ballet's The Sleeping Beauty If you've been waiting for the right moment to introduce your littles to ballet, this is it. Vladimir Malakhov's lush production has gorgeous costumes, Tchaikovsky performed live by the HK Phil, and according tot...
Happy long weekend, everyone! Buddha’s Birthday falls on Sunday, so you’ve got three whole days to fill. This week’s picks lean heavily into Hong Kong’s best cultural traditions — bun towers, floating parades, island markets. Let’s go! 1. Cheung Chau: Bun Festival & Piu Sik Parade This is THE weekend for Cheung Chau. The famous Piu Sik parade — where kids in elaborate costumes “float” through the streets on hidden steel frames — kicks off around 2pm on Sunday (24 May). Expect mini...
Hey parents! This weekend is absolutely stacked — we’ve got Dr. Seuss on stage, affordable art that kids can actually touch and a dose of authentic Hong Kong culture. Let’s dive in. 1. Wan Chai: Affordable Art Fair 2026 Don’t let the name fool you — this is surprisingly kid-friendly. They’ve set up a dedicated Art Loop Children's Art Tour every hour (lasts 30minutes) and there are hands on print making, painting and creative workshops. They also have a "Family Morning" session if you want a...
