HK Family Activities for this Weekend (21-22 March 2026)

Hello Reader

I'm so excited - there's something going on in my neighbourhood! I love staying on the South side of Hong Kong - its peaceful, still central and has local vibes <3

HKO Weather forecast: Cloudy (20-24 degrees)

1. Ap Lei Chau: Dragon Boats & Lion Dances

Ap Lei Chau is celebrating the Hung Shing festival - with celebrants seeking blessings from the deity for good weather and peace in the neighbourhood. Expect lion dances (there's a high pole lion dance competition!), blessing of water lanterns and dragon boats and a parade! Perfect HK cultural day out and you can walk over to the massive playground at South Horizons too!
My kid has been re-enacting the lion dance she saw over the lunar new year every morning with a random container over her head and its 10 minutes away from my place so we are definitely popping by this one! More >>>

2. Kai Tak: Fire fighters!! 🚒🚒🚒

Do you have a fire engine obsessed kid (aren't all kids?)?? Co organised by the HK Fire Services Department, expect tons of great photo ops. Think your kids dressed up (and riding!) in mini fire and ambulance uniforms and engines, game booths with fun balloons and toys (kid sized fire fighter hats), search and rescue dogs demo and lots more.
We went to the fire station day at Pokfulam a couple weeks ago and my toddler still mentions it every time we pass a fire engine! A word of advice - get there early and bring snacks and hats cause the Queues get longgggggg and it is HOT.
Happening on Sunday (22 March) 2-5pm, Kai Tak Station Square, free! More (chi only) >>>

3. Kai Tak: Free HK Chinese Orchestra Concert 🎶

HKCO is attempting a World Record at Kai Tak Sports Park. Happening on Sunday (22 March) from 2:15 PM to 6:00 PM, watch as ensembles of reed instruments— the highlight is the sheng —perform across the park before joining for a grand outdoor finale.
Make sure to stick around for the big concert starting at 4.30pm at the East Village. More >>>

4. CWB: HK Flower Show

Ok, I'll admit, this was not originally a pick.
Flowers, yawn. Then I saw last years photos and it genuinely looks quite amazing and even fun for kids like pandas climbing flower mountains, windmill flowers and lions made of flowers! Based on last year's programme, the were also kids dance performances, magic shows, music and more.
Plus it's just $14 and in causeway bay victoria park - if I'm in the area, you bet I'm dropping by! 20-29 March, 9am-9pm More >>

5. Kwai Tsing, Lantau: Ice cream

First up, I lied. This isn't happening this weekend - or rather it is but its already fully booked but I wanted to include it so you can book it for a future weekend.
TLDR, visit a local ice cream factory, make ice cream, eat unlimited ice cream popsicles. Need I say more? Book and buy tickets from Klook at US$58 pax - slightly pricey but it comes with 18 mini tubs of ice cream yummm. More >>>

✌️✌️✌️ Sharing is caring - forward this to a fellow parent friend who's looking for weekend ideas or tell them to sign up with their own email here!

💜💜💜 Hit reply if you have any ideas for events / activities to include, or if I did a great (or 💩) job with this week's recommendations

Hello Reader It is BOILINGGGGGG - for me that means time to hide in the shade although I am equally imagining lots of families heading to the beach (; With that in mind, I'm keeping my recommendations strictly AC only - don't hate! 1. TST: Kid friendly HK Ballet's The Sleeping Beauty If you've been waiting for the right moment to introduce your littles to ballet, this is it. Vladimir Malakhov's lush production has gorgeous costumes, Tchaikovsky performed live by the HK Phil, and according tot...

Happy long weekend, everyone! Buddha’s Birthday falls on Sunday, so you’ve got three whole days to fill. This week’s picks lean heavily into Hong Kong’s best cultural traditions — bun towers, floating parades, island markets. Let’s go! 1. Cheung Chau: Bun Festival & Piu Sik Parade This is THE weekend for Cheung Chau. The famous Piu Sik parade — where kids in elaborate costumes “float” through the streets on hidden steel frames — kicks off around 2pm on Sunday (24 May). Expect mini...

Hey parents! This weekend is absolutely stacked — we’ve got Dr. Seuss on stage, affordable art that kids can actually touch and a dose of authentic Hong Kong culture. Let’s dive in. 1. Wan Chai: Affordable Art Fair 2026 Don’t let the name fool you — this is surprisingly kid-friendly. They’ve set up a dedicated Art Loop Children's Art Tour every hour (lasts 30minutes) and there are hands on print making, painting and creative workshops. They also have a "Family Morning" session if you want a...
