πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ HK Family Activities 3-4 Oct πŸŽ‰

Hello Reader

Hey families! It's a long weekend (National Day holiday on Thursday rolls right into the weekend), so you've got three whole days to fill. The weather's finally cooling down and there's actually a decent spread of stuff happening. Let's go.

1. Central: Family Day at Tai Kwun Contemporary

Tai Kwun's new Family Day programme kicks off this weekend and runs through January. Two sessions daily (1:30–3:30pm and 4–6pm) with rotating workshops β€” this round includes "Object Makeover Magic" where kids transform everyday items into art. The heritage compound is gorgeous, and there's always good people-watching in the courtyard after. (Bonus: the police station cells are genuinely interesting for older kids.)

2. Kai Tak: Children's Balance Bike Workshop

Kai Tak Sports Park is running a balance bike workshop for 3–7 year olds, sponsored by HSBC and led by actual cycling champion Po Sir. HK$100 gets you bike and equipment provided, plus proper instruction β€” warm-up, basic skills, games, and a little ride. Two sessions (9am and 10:30am). Way better than buying a balance bike that sits in your hallway for three years.

3. Happy Valley: Weekend Market

A proper little neighbourhood market tucked away near the tram terminus. Local ceramics, handmade bits, the kind of stalls where makers actually want to chat. Not massive, not overwhelming β€” perfect for a morning wander with kids who'll lose it if you drag them through one more megamall. Grab a coffee, let them touch things they probably shouldn't, call it "cultural enrichment." Or here's a thought, instead of paying some exorbitant camp fee, sign your kid up for the next market and let them try selling something small!
πŸ“… SSat & Sun, 10.30am-6.30pmοΏ½$8ree0πŸ‘‰ Details

4. Lantau: Earth Art for Children at Ark Eden

This one's a bit of a trek (Mui Wo) and honestly, quite pricey, but if your kids are the type who like getting properly muddy, it's worth it. Earth dancing, building with natural materials, painting with natural pigments, foraging for objects to incorporate into sculptures. Run by Alex from Bisque-kit and Jenny from Ark Eden, who actually know what they're doing. Sensory play that doesn't involve a screen? Revolutionary.
