Hello Reader

The weather's finally getting a bit more bearable, which means... it's actually enjoyable to be outside again. This weekend's got a nice mix of active stuff, creative workshops, some solid free options and a freebie from an online learning platform. For the eagle eyed amongst you, there's also a new blurb at the bottom - do take a moment to read it ❀️

1. Wan Chai: Hong Kong Balance Bike Carnival

If your little one is obsessed with their balance bike (or you've been meaning to dust it off), this is their moment. Free entry, obstacle courses, races, and a test ride area with ramps and bends. It's right on the harbourfront so there's space to run around after too. (Helmets recommended, obviously.)

The Asia Society campus is gorgeous β€” a restored former explosives magazine with over 100 years of history. Free guided tours on Sunday in English (11:15am) and Mandarin (12pm). Good for slightly older kids who can handle a bit of walking and history. Register ahead as spaces are limited.

4. Sha Tin: The Joy of Country Cooking at Heritage Museum

Every Saturday and Sunday there's a free drop-in activity at the Children's Discovery Gallery where kids aged 4-8 can try their hand at Sek Pun, or Basin Feast - a dish often served to clansmen gathering round the table in New Territories during religious rituals, festivals and other special occasions - in a play kitchen setup. It's simple, it's sweet, and the Heritage Museum is worth exploring anyway. Sign up 30 minutes in advance.

5. Kowloon Bay: Old Clothes New Life

Got a drawer of mismatched socks or some sentimental childrens' clothes you can't bear to throw away? Turn them into something your kids will actually love! There's lots of hands-on workshops for families at the Old Clothes New Life festival, supported by Redress at the CIC-Zero Carbon Park. Expect to upcycle old socks into their very own handmade dolls, or old clothes into tote bags or yarn tassle keychains.
