Hello Reader

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival weekend, everyone! The moon is full, the lanterns are lit, and Hong Kong is absolutely glowing right now. This is genuinely one of the best weekends of the year to be out with kids β€” fire dragons, 3,000+ international lanterns, and so many free things to do. Let's get into it.

1. Causeway Bay: Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance

The legendary 67-metre fire dragon studded with 72,000 incense sticks is BACK. The iconic live performance happens around Tai Hang (best viewing spot is Wun Sha Street) & will extend to Victoria Park on Friday night at 10.30pm (caveat, probably way past your kids' bed time). This is bucket-list Hong Kong β€” genuinely spectacular and totally free. Get there early for a good spot.

πŸ“… Fri & Sun 7pm-10pm, Sat 7pm-11.30pmπŸ’²Free πŸ‘‰ Details

2. West Kowloon: WestK Picnic Fest

The Art Park lawns are hosting their annual Picnic Fest with market stalls, music on the grass, picnic rentals, and family workshops. This weekend has a Seasonal Night Light Workshop on Saturday 26th (5:45-7pm) and a Botanical Ceramics Workshop on Saturday 26th (2-3pm). Perfect for a lazy afternoon sprawl with harbour views. Bring a mat or rent one onsite.

πŸ“… Sat & Sun, 2-9pmπŸ’²Free πŸ‘‰ Details

3. East Kowloon: Instrument Petting Zoo at EKCC

The Metropolitan Youth Orchestra is hosting an Instrument Petting Zoo at East Kowloon Cultural Centre on Saturday the 27th. Kids get to try out real orchestral instruments β€” think tiny hands on cellos and French horns. It's hands-on, and a great way to see if your kid has a hidden musical calling (or just likes making noise).

πŸ“… Saturday, 3-6pmπŸ’²$280πŸ‘‰ Details

4. Sheung Wan: "Five Elements" Children's Arts & Tech Musical Theatre

This one's a bit different β€” a 3-in-1 immersive experience combining a Sheung Wan city walk, a Mozart-inspired musical performance, and an interactive exhibition. Kids use a passport to unlock clues at 30+ heritage spots, then watch a show about the Five Elements with live music. It's running all weekend at Sheung Wan Civic Centre. Tickets around $340, but there's a family bundle deal, Cantonese only!

πŸ“… Sat-SunπŸ’²340+πŸ‘‰ Details

5. Mid Autumn Festivities

If you have a lantern obsessed kid, aside from the Victoria Park Lantern Festival, other mid-autumn festivities you might want to check out are Lantern Street in Yuen Long, Blue House in Wan Chai as well as Lee Tung Avenue's LED fire dragon performance on Friday from 8.30-9.15pm.
